"Removing two stars because of the menu option -Ora King Salmon- We had a great experience at Selanne Steak Tavern overall. The service was excellent, and the food was also very good. However, one thing I was disappointed by was seeing couscous listed on the menu as “Israeli couscous.” Couscous is from North Africa particularly Morocco, and labeling it this way felt inaccurate and culturally insensitive. I even asked the waiter about it, and they confirmed it was being described as Israeli. For a restaurant of this level, I expected more care and accuracy in how dishes are presented. The food and service were great, but this menu description really stood out for the wrong reasons and should be reconsidered."

"I knew not to trust a celebrity steakhouse going into Mother’s Day, but I went anyway. Decided to try Selanne’s for the first time on 5/10/2026 and my disappointment is immeasurable. The first warning was when I got a call to confirm my reservation and they emphasized a “pre-fix” menu. NEVER TRUST A PRE-FIX. I went against my gut and confirmed my reservation for 30 minutes after opening. (Reminder, I booked this reservation 3 weeks in advance.) Strolled in with my handicap mother, who struggled with the stairs. My reservation requested a seat inside, but they ushered us to the patio and wouldn’t reseat us saying the restaurant was “full.” The pre-fix included 4 courses, asking $135 per person. Looking around, I should have taken it as another warning to walk out. The group next to us were playing with their overcooked steak on the table talking about how bad the meat was. I ordered: -Avocado Toast, Lobster Bisque, Ribeye, and the chocolate raspberry dessert. My mother: -Beat “ravioli,” Seared Scallops, Sirloin, and the same dessert. The appetizer were lazy and uninspiring. The avocado toast was just ok. My mother’s beats on the other hand were downright awful. 3 slices of raw beats on a plate with some sauce. Far cry from ravioli. The first course, lobster bisque was good, but they served maybe 4 oz of soup. My mother’s scallops were raw and when we mentioned it to the server we were told “that’s how the chef prefers” and wouldn’t send it back. The main course was some of the laziest cuts of steak that I have eaten in my life. It’s like they slapped the lowest quality cut of each steak on a plate steeped with 30-40% fat and said “good enough” and sent it out. The sides for each dish? Nothing to write home about. The “cooked” carrots were served raw. Mashed potatoes were just butter. The green beans were hard and chewy. The dessert was the only saving grace of the meal. I spoke with the younger manager on duty with the orange tie and was told that there was “nothing they could do since it’s a pre-fix menu.” I left very disappointed, and although my mother wouldn’t say, I know she was devastated as well. There are far better steakhouses in Orange County and I think Selanne’s officially ruined pre-fix menus for me permanently."
