"As a true Southerner, this was an experience! I had read a borderline-x-rated review of Tully's on Newsbreak the other day & thought to myself I need to see what this is all about because I love sandwiches, have not found a good eggplant sub around, & I too want food so good it makes me wanna write something that sounds like a scene straight outta When Harry Met Sally or whatever. For a serious hole-in-the-wall-type establishment, I first noticed the parking lot was packed at the odd hour I visited after an appt. That's always a good sign, & everyone from old Monte Carlo drivers to Maserati dbags were filtering in. Also a good sign. I was suprised to find that Tully's has an adjoining Italian bakery & shop, so bonus points for that from someone who has absolutely no will-power. Anyway, the ambience was special. Authentic & lively but not packed & with plenty of available seats. Looked old school with an actual bar & market items. But who cares about that, right? The food: The counter moves like a deli - a big menu above a cashier with a single-file line of hungry folks. Refrigerated olive/pepper bar adjacent. I appreciate that the menu was broken out into specialty, veg, hot, cold, etc. There were more vegetarian options than I had expected, so while I came for the eggplant parm sub, it was a hot day so I decided on cold veg sub expecting something like Publix or Subway but better, idk. Was given the option of chips or potato salad & chose the latter. The wait lasted just a few minutes, as one would expect, & they called my name but also brought it to me, which was sweet. I had gotten it to go, so it was very well-wrapped & bagged, but the scent of that deli had worked up a feeding frenzy so I tore right into it once in my car. It was so not like Publix & Subway. Well, duh, but again, I'm new to Italian delis. It wasn't caked in mayo but instead had been splashed with oil, maybe vinegar, with a side of creamy Italian dressing. A lot of various peppers that seemed to have been marinated & were just the right texture & flavor when paired with super-fresh olives, lettuce, etc. I can only imagine how good the meats are & will be sure to bring my European husband to test that out! Now for that bakery - a ton of options including the classics & various biscottis. I was torn between the tiramisu & cannoli. The cashier recommended the tiramisu ($9, refrigerated) so I just went with it. Portion size was good - I got two desserts out of that. Honestly wasn't really a fan after developing a preference for an espresso/rum base, but probably for those who love traditional, this would be a winner in terms of quality ingredients, not too sweet, etc. Shoulda got the cannoli. Side notes that I am happy to have found a place to sell basil infused olive oils at a fraction of the price of the touristy shops. Massive jars of giardiniera, so props to them for promoting their own products while also facilitating affordable cooking at home. They also have a large selection of take & bakes but I didn't see pricetags."
