Smarty Pants

"For ten years, I came here monthly at least for the Frito pie with veggie chilli and a salad with tuna in place of whatever meat it normally came with. When they took the tuna off their menu in the last six months I was deeply bummed, making the only non mammal protein option Field Roast, which isn't good on a salad, or anything other than a sandwich. A few weeks ago I kept an open mind and tried it once more with the chef salad, but the greens were sparse and low quality, it tasted bad, with awkward service. Yesterday after working in the rain, my partner and I wanted the Frito pie. Once we sat down I noticed the menus no longer had the vegetarian chilli. I was so put off I just ordered a beer and my partner said we should get the check and eat somewhere else, and set his credit card out. The new staff took nearly 30 minutes to come run the card. I am pescatarian and love hearty pub food, and this place used to consistently kick ass. But grilled cheese, fake sandwich meat and non-protein options for vegetarians are the mark of mediocre kitchens and bad management. Without the veggie chilli I have no reason to come here again, after ten years of frequenting the place. I am so disappointed in you Smarty Pants. Anyone looking for good veg / pescatarian pub experience, go to Loretta's, Star Brassworks, or Hudson. Prior review (2025): Consistently good and just easy. There's always a table, servers are super chill and very nice. Yummy menu options (incl for vegetarians)"

"Unassuming joint with a tasty menu. Big portions, my sandwich and tots were more than I could finish alone, match the prices well. The noise level between the good music and the big table next to us made it a little louder than we prefer. Not enough we couldn't carry on our conversation though, and we will be coming back."

"Great sandwiches, working my way through the menu and haven't had a dud yet!"
