"We’re avid tiki enthusiasts and visit Royal Hawaiian or Stowaway at least once a week. We’ve been coming to Royal Hawaiian for years and have easily spent thousands here. Their drinks are outstanding — truly some of the best in Southern California with limited competition. The restaurant itself gets a 10/10. We had a lovely lunch with our infant and were impressed by how family-friendly the place is. It’s genuinely welcoming to guests of all ages. The food was excellent: pineapple fried rice, crab Rangoon, sliders, and of course the drinks were all fantastic. Happy Hour is misleading - every tiki place we go to has a happy hour across the restaurant. It is the primary reason why we go to Stowaway - they apply it to everyone across the restaurant. Because we were with an infant, we had to sit in a back corner (understandable…) but happy hour doesn’t apply to anywhere except the bar. Website should probably be clear about that. But we were fine with it. We were just happy to be there and have our favorite drinks. The only bitter taste was the parking. We were able to find street parking, but they also offer dedicated restaurant parking that’s supposed to be free with your receipt. The parking attendant still insisted on parking our car even though the lot was almost completely empty (which felt like a waste of time as we were already in a spot and ready to move to wherever he wanted). After our meal, we double-checked with three different staff members inside who confirmed parking would be validated with our receipt. However, when we returned to the lot, the same attendant demanded $10 for one hour of parking. We even had to bring a restaurant rep with us to talk to the parking gentleman. Parking has been free here for years - that’s a really awful change. For a quick lunch, that left a bitter taste after an otherwise wonderful experience. Hoping they resolve the parking confusion soon — the restaurant is fantastic and deserves better logistics."
