"Great food, Bad Service I used to love Fonda La Catrina. But each time I go back, the service gets worse. I have been about six times over the past 18 months. The food is really good, but the experience is not. The service feels disorganized. No table gets its own dedicated server. Two to four different people might stop by: a food runner, the host, or sometimes a server. None of them seem to know what’s going on because none of them are dedicated to your table. There is also only one bartender for the whole restaurant, so drinks take forever no matter where you are sitting. That has been the case almost every time I have visited. My last visit, on Friday, June 5, was a real bummer. My wife and I went to have a chill, lowkey celebration of a big deadline. We ordered margaritas and enchiladas, some tacos, and an appetizer. . The food came out fast, but our margaritas never did. No one came to our table the entire meal. Not to check in, not to refill water, nothing. Our server never returned at all, actually… It was the host who eventually dropped off the check. By then it was too late to ask about the drinks. And to top it off, the margaritas were still on the bill. I had to ask for them to be removed, because again — no one actually knows what’s going on with each tables. It just feels like a scramble. The servers also lack basic tableside training. When I asked whether the mole was more chocolatey or spicy, my server shrugged and said: “meh, the mole is okay.” What a buzz kill. That is not the kind of answer that makes you feel welcome or excited about your meal. The food here is genuinely good (I personally love the lengua tacos), which makes all of this so frustrating… I hope the team makes some changes. Until then, I would not hurry back and instead explore other places first."
