Chotto Matte San Francisco

"100 out of 5 stars! Oh my goodness, where do I begin with this absolutely gorgeous space, exceptional food, breathtaking views, and an amazingly kind team? Let me start by saying that I am a very proud San Francisco native, born and raised. Over the course of my 40+ years in this city, I've eaten at countless restaurants throughout San Francisco. Chotto Matte stands out as one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. From the moment we arrived, the service was outstanding. We were even seated a bit earlier than our rooftop reservation time, which was a lovely surprise. Every single person—from the hosts and waitstaff to the bussers, servers, and management team—was warm, welcoming, and attentive. Multiple team members, including what I assume were supervisors or managers, stopped by our table throughout the evening to check on our food and make sure we were enjoying our experience. Even on the way to the restroom and as we were leaving, people went out of their way to be friendly and welcoming. I see that customer experience is important and matters to the team across the board. We ordered the Nikkei Gyoza, Black Cod, Spicy Tuna Hako Roll, and guacamole. Every dish was delicious, but the Black Cod was the standout for me—it literally melted in my mouth! We cleaned every plate and were practically scraping up the last bites because everything was that good. What impressed me most was not just the quality of the food, but the combination of incredible food, hospitality, and attention to detail. That's rare, even in a city with as many great restaurants as San Francisco. The food was so good that I didn't even manage to take proper photos before we started eating. I absolutely cannot wait for my next visit here!"

"One of the best rooftops in the city hands down. Great music, the decor is beautiful and the views are great. The vibes are unmatched. The food however missed the mark. The sushi was not very flavorful and one was dowsed in a heavy sauce, felt like I ate mayonnaise and rice. Fried rice was sour, like the flavor profile was very weird, we had to send it back unfortunately (we are not those people). We ordered mocktails, very slimy texture. I liked the salmon nigiri, was not the best but not too bad. Chicken Karage, was not your usual karage, the texture felt more like plain fried chicken. Dress up and come with friends to have a great fun night with music and cocktails. Culinary department used to be better a year ago, now not so much. We will be coming back because we love the vibes. "Federico delivered some of the best service we’ve experienced in a long time. We dine out often, but this was truly another level. He was attentive without ever being intrusive, made sure our water glasses were always full, explained the menu perfectly, and made us feel genuinely welcomed throughout the entire evening. The food was excellent, but Federico’s hospitality made the experience unforgettable. Exceptional service, great food, and a fantastic atmosphere. We will definitely be back and look forward to seeing him again."
